Comparison of six weeks low calorie diet with healthy lifestyle with combined training on weight loss and blood lipids in obese women

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare six weeks of low-calorie diet with healthy lifestyle along with combined exercise on body weight and blood lipids in obese women.

Materials and methods: In this practical study, 24 obese women were voluntarily selected and randomly divided into two equal groups. Group 1: Balanced low-calorie diet with combined exercise Group 2: Healthy lifestyle with combined exercise. In the low-calorie diet group, 700 kcal per day was deducted from their energy intake. In the healthy lifestyle group, subjects should follow the instructions given by the researcher. Combined training, 6 sessions per week, 60 minutes each session was performed for 6 weeks. Body weight was measured with a digital scale and lipid factors were measured by blood sampling from the arm vein. Paired t-test and independent t-test were used for data analysis.

Results: According to the results, body weight, waist circumference, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and blood sugar decreased significantly and HDL increased significantly in both intervention groups, but blood pressure did not change. There was no significant difference in the variables in the comparison between groups.

Conclusion: Low-calorie diet and healthy lifestyle along with combined exercise had an effect on reducing body weight, blood sugar and improving lipid factor and can be used as an approach to obesity treatment.
